'Girl Germs' - Zine
Zine
'Girl Germs' was a zine created by Allison Wolfe and Molly Neuman, both members of the band Bratmobile. It was published just before Riot Grrrl truly emerged and helped pave the way for this movement. Contributors to the zine included Kathleen Hanna, Calamity Jane and 7 Year Bitch among many others.

Downfall
Live @ Gilman
Downfall was a ska punk band from the Bay Area California formed by Tim Armstrong, Matt Freeman, Dave Mello, Pat Mello and Jason Hammon following the break up of Operation Ivy. They performed three shows over a period of three months, one being at Gilman, which was recorded and made into this live album.

Dip Dap
Something's Better Than Nothing
Dip Dap are a Sloppy sounding Pop Punk band founded in June '08 and based in Glasgow, Scotland. They play short and fast songs with a mix of Grunge. They are always playing gigs in Scotland and England and are influenced by the likes of Astrid Oto, Blatz, Tilt, Nirvana and Crimpshrine, but still manage to put their own twist on things. This EP is the bands first since their reformation in April 2009 but are soon to be recording a full length album. Check out this bands live album and zine too.

The Motards

The Motards burst onto the garage punk scene on a tidal wave of piss and beer, before breaking up in early 1998. A premier force in the great Austin garage scene, these guys released two albums on Seattle's empty records and a slew of singles and comp tracks.

Jim Carroll expressed the Bomb-fear anticipation, the optimistic nihilism and glittering darkness of the 1980s that could not be otherwise communicated. The band's success can be attributed to the powerful combination of pure rock 'n' roll with Carroll's poetic sensibility and ability to write from his own experience. He has recorded with the likes of Pearl Jam, Rancid, Lou Reed, Danny Barnes, and John Cale. 'Catholic Boy' is now considered one of the last great punk albums and is a must have in your collection.

These guys have played everywhere, even backyards and street corners, and have got rid of the usual restrictions of amps and equipment by choosing to play simple folk-punk.

The Avengers

The Avengers are an American punk band formed in 1977 in San Francisco, CA, fronted by singer/ songwriter Penelope Houston. This release features singles and studio recordings from '77-'78 and was compiled by drummer Danny Furious. The Avengers played just over 100 shows and appeared with the Sex Pistols at Winterland, which led to a recording with Pistols guitarist Steve Jones.

Shotwell
Celery Beef And Iron
Originally named Shotwell Coho, this band consisted of Jim Broustis from Strawman and Arron Cometbus from an array of bands including Crimpshrine and Pinhead Gunpowder. This line up however did not work out and in '95, with a new lineup, Jim decided to rename the band Shotwell. After lots of touring and songwriting, the band settled down and recorded their first album 'Celery Beef And Iron' with Arron on drums once again, although I'm pretty sure this is the final time that Arron played drums for the band.

Anorak Girl
Plastic Fantastic
In 1996, Anorak Girl came out of nowhere, recorded some songs and vanished. Then, in 2008, they came out of nowhere once again and released a 7 track mini album 'Plastic Fantastic' with remastered songs from the original recordings. They are a girl/boy band and play a mix of indie/pop punk. Well worth checking out.

This band formed in Manchester in late '96 and were loved by many, even John Peel who played them over and over again. They were called "the coolest boy grrl punk band in the world" and had a style similar to Huggy Bear and The Budget Girls. The band split in late '98.

This is my second Connie Dungs post. Formed in 1994 in a small town in Kentucky, this snotty pop punk band gained many fans by making and selling their cassettes at many underground punk shows. Since then, they have had many releases on different labels but are still not as well known as they should be.

Retching Red was an Oakland based hardcore punk band consisting of Cinder Block, formerly of Tilt, Mike Avilez, formerly of Angry Samoans, Adam Grant And Jake Dudley. The band have two full length releases as well as this split 7'' and have been on indefinite hiatus since 2006.
The Twats were a hardcore punk band from Washington DC fronted by loud and angry singer, Cuntess Twat. They have been compared to the likes of early AFI and Naked Aggression with lyrics ranging from sarcastic to heartfelt to witty. The band decided to call it quits in 2007.

The Connie Dungs

A short lived punk group fronted by two 13 year old boys. The band also consisted of an escaped mental patient on guitar. This EP was recorded at their first ever gig at the Gilman Street Project in Berkeley, 1988, with songs they had improvised that same day on the way to the gig. Two Years later one of the boys, Giuliano, died in an 'elevator surfing' accident while looking around an abandoned building.

An American punk band from Washington, Bikini Kill is widely considered to be the pioneer of the riot grrrl movement and was well known for their radical feminist lyrics and fiery performances.
This CD contains their 1992 'Eponymous' EP and their half of the 1993 EP 'Yeah Yeah Yeah Yeah', an album they shared with the band Huggy Bear.
